Currently, Matt is located in the northeast Tri-State area, where he is actively developing his reputation as a freelance musician and teacher.  He is the co-author/collaborator of jazz publications through Jamey Aebersold and Advance music, and has two recordings under his own name.  More information can be found at www.mattvashlishan.com.

 

 
 

Matt holds three degrees in Jazz Performance: a Bachelors in Jazz Performance and Contemporary Media (Saxophone) from the Eastman School of Music; a Masters of Jazz Performance in Saxophone from William Paterson University; and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Saxophone from the University of Miami.

Maintaining an active performance career, Matt has performed with his own groups as well as on numerous cruise lines, traveling the globe and performing with many internationally recognized instrumentalists and vocal performers.  He has played with Bruce Hornsby, Chuck Bergeron, Michael Feinstein, Paul Anka, Dave Grusin, Patty Austin, John Secada, Nestor Torres, Phil Woods, the Temptations, the Four Tops, and numerous others.  His large ensemble credentials include the Phil Woods Big Band, Dave Rivello Ensemble, Alan Baylock Orchestra, Miami Orchestra, the Florida Pops, and Stephen Guerra Big Band.  For his own projects. Matt often includes Phil Markowitz, Bill Goodwin, Michael Stephans, Vic Juris, Tony Marino, Evan Gregor, and Ian Froman.

 
 
 
 

Matt Vashlishan is a native of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, where he grew up around many notable jazz artists such as saxophonists David Liebman and Phil Woods.  Gravitating towards music in elementary school, Matt became active in the local music community playing classical and jazz saxophone, as well as writing music and performing with local groups such as the COTA Cats and various school ensembles.
